Netflix Raises Fees for Irish Users
As Netflix provides online video streaming to about 200,00 Irish viewers, the company has decided to implement higher prices in order to pay for new content.
While Irish viewers are being charged around €3 more each month, British viewers have only seen fees rise of €1.92.
Netflix’s main video streaming competitors in Ireland are Sky and Apple iTunes.
Recent statistics from TV providers such as Sky, Virgin and RTE show that retail revenues have fallen by 8.3pc since 2015. The number of ads on regular TV schedules has also dropped by 25pc since 2014.
This shows that Irish consumers are possibly moving away from live TV broadcasting to on-demand streaming networks via phones, tablets and video players.
Farther statistics have also shown that DVD sales are also plummeting due to video streaming cites.
