candc_bulmersCider and beer company C&C Group is to shut two of its plants, which could lead to the loss of over 260 jobs.

A cost-cutting review at C&C in Tipperary is resulting in the loss of over 100 jobs. The water-bottling plant in Borrisoleigh, which employs 140 staff, is one of two bases that will shut.

In the firm’s last financial statement it revealed that it was looking to cut some €15m a year and that it had been looking at its Irish and British operations.

It is understood that the group will look to close its water-bottling plant in Borrisoleigh in Tipperary where it employs some 140 people. However, according to the report production will be moved to Clonmel, where 80 jobs are said to be created.

It is still unclear that those who may lose their positions  in Borrisoleigh will be offered redeployment in the firm’s Clonmel base.

The full plant at Borrisoleigh isn’t expected to be shut completely, with the expectation for it to continue as a warehouse and distribution centre.

C&C is reportedly also looking to close another plant in Somerset, England, where it employs more than 120 people.

C&C Group is a manufacturer, marketer and distributor of branded cider, beer, wine and soft drinks.
