Limerick engineering firm OMC Technologies has announced a €4 million investment, as well as the recruitment of 40 new personnel and the appointment of a new board of management as part of plans to significantly expand the business in 2023. The company, which provides steel manufacturing and surface treatment services, has announced it will invest a total of €4 million to enhance its materials processing capabilities and improve the efficiency of its manufacturing processes and capacity.

In addition to this, the firm has plans to make a number of additional key investments – including a new 30,000 sq ft mild steel fabrication facility, and an upgrade of facilities at its head office. OMC, which has been in operation for over 40 years in Limerick, also has plans to hire 40 personnel to add to its 200 strong team across various roles, including apprentice and qualified site Metal Fabricators and fitters, General Operatives, Mechanical Engineers, Design Engineers, Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers.

The recruitment of new talent forms a key strategy for the company’s growth plans for the years ahead, alongside the announcement of a new board of management which consists of four senior OMC Technologies staff joining as Associate Directors and Padraic Comerford, son of OMC Founder and Chairman, being appointed as Deputy Managing Director for the business. Padraic Comerford will work alongside Managing Director Neil Lynch and the new board to grow the business in 2023.

Speaking of the company’s growth plans, Padraic Comerford, said: “We are delighted to announce our new management board alongside a €4 million investment, creation of new jobs and new management appointments as we enter a significant new chapter in OMC Technologies 40-year history. Each of these developments show our dedication to securing the future of our company as specialists in the design, creation, and installation of bespoke solutions for our customers across a wide range of industries.”

Founder and Chairman Tom Comerford commented: “OMC was founded in 1981 and seeing see the next generation of Comerford’s come into a leadership role at the company is a real milestone in my life. Padraic has played an integral role since 2004, before being appointed a director in 2018 and now steps in as Deputy Managing Director alongside Managing Director Neil Lynch.

“At OMC Technologies, we have a proud history of longevity of staff and the new management, who have been with us a long time, will play a pivotal role in driving the company to the next level. I wish the new management team, and everyone who is part of OMC a fantastic year ahead.”

The engineering firm’s new board of management consists of Martin O’Boyle, Associate Director of Architecture and Metalwork, Joe Brennan, Associate Director of Cleanroom, Michael Kennedy, Associate Director of Surface Treatment, and Vivian Kenny, Associate Director of Finance, who will all work alongside Padraic Comerford.

While their management appointments might be recent, the new appointees have all been employed at OMC Technologies for at least 10 and up to 25 years, reflecting the value the company places on longevity as the financial investment cements the firm’s future in the engineering and construction industry.

Having recently worked on large scale projects across Ireland including Intel’s Fab 34 Expansion, Wuxi Pharma and MSD Swords, OMC Technologies’ clients also include UK and European companies, and as the firm enters a period of significant growth, it has also successfully secured contracts with a number of large European-based companies including Fujifilm Diosynth in Denmark and BMS Cell Therapy in Leiden, Netherlands.

The company has said that these European projects, alongside the existing Irish client base will provide opportunities to continue expanding in Europe and it strengthens OMC Technologies’ capacity to maintain a high level of service to its existing customer base in Ireland.
