Abbey Machinery, which is one of Ireland’s largest and most respected manufacturers of agricultural equipment, has announced the successful expansion of its factory by an additional 10,000 square feet at its 30 acre site based in Toomevara, County Tipperary. The building expansion and new SMART machines added to the production process will increase throughput at Abbey Machinery by 20%. The purpose-built 110,000 sq. ft manufacturing facility integrates sustainability and digital innovations into all aspects of machine manufacturing.

Abbey has installed new, energy-efficient equipment, including a new fibre laser machine, replacing CO2 laser, with a significantly more energy-efficient process. Additional plasma cutting upgrades increase product quality and increase capacity.

Abbey’s sustainability initiatives have reduced carbon footprint and increased energy efficiencies at the factory. Abbey have recently introduced a 250-kilowatt solar system to reduce dependency on the electricity grid. Currently over 60% percent of the electricity used at Abbey Machinery is now sourced from renewable energy, with a commitment to sourcing 100% green energy longer term. Abbey Machinery also uses less water than a domestic household due to the rain water harvesting system installed, further reducing environmental impact.

“Abbey Machinery is committed to manufacturing high-quality agricultural machinery while reducing our carbon footprint and increasing sustainability,” said Clodagh Cavanagh, Managing Director of Abbey Machinery. “Our new factory expansion and investments in sustainability initiatives demonstrate our commitment to continually improving our manufacturing process and delivering high-quality products to our customers.” Abbey Machinery was established by the Cavanagh family in 1947.

With the expansion and introduction of new robotic welding machines, Abbey customers can be confident that the manufacturing process is consistent with the highest weld quality. The addition of the robotic welders, fibre laser and plasma machines will all support extended throughput delivering high spec, custom made solutions to support our customers’ growing needs.

Abbey Machinery technology caters for the ‘Total Cow’ from one end to the other, including: precision Diet Feeding technology; environmentally friendly Slurry Spreading systems; high output Agitation Pumps; highly efficient Muck Spreaders; accurate grassland Toppers and Fertiliser Shakers. Abbey Machinery has been designing agricultural machinery and industrial solutions for over 75 years and is committed to delivering high-quality products to its customers.
